Let's Get Active - Fit Frogwell!

At Frogwell Primary School we believe all children should experience high quality PE and school sports. Our Curriculum is based on the teaching and development of the basic skills: Agility, Balance and Coordination. We follow a Multi skills based curriculum from Foundation Stage to Year 6, using REAL PE as our scheme of work. We introduce more formal games such as tag rugby, hockey, netball and kwik cricket in KS2. Alongside games, there is also a focus on REAL gymnastics, dance and outdoor education (Forest Schools being part of this). Pupils from EYFS to Year 5 have swimming lessons each year for 1 term with pupils in Year 5 and 6 having additional swimming if they have not reached national standard by Year 5. Pupils in Y2 and Y6 take part in residential visits.

Staff are trained in the Real PE programme – A fundamental movement skills scheme devised by Ronnie Heath from Create development. These programmes focus not only on the physical development of the child, but their social, cognitive, personal development and health and fitness.

As a result of the government’s investment in school sport, we now work in partnership with Up & Under Sports. A coach is employed to work alongside teachers / teaching assistants 1 morning a week, delivering the curriculum. We strongly believe that a team teaching approach will greatly benefit the children and ensure our teaching team also receive professional development, remaining skilled and up to date. We are also supported by specialist coaches who deliver specific sports programmes such as football, tennis and kwik cricket.

Targeted pupils have also benefitted from additional PE led by Up and Under Sports.  Children are selected to attend 'Active Academy' each year and gifted and talented children identified to attend special events and training.

The government funding will enable us to continue our involvement in these festivals and allow us to broaden the type of events we attend. We will also be able to attend more activities organised by our partner secondary school such Multi skills festivals, Dance Festival and Olympic Legacy events.  Most importantly, it will encourage increasing numbers of pupils to get active and enjoy the buzz that physical activity gives you.
