Welcome to Term 4!
We hope you all had a wonderful break and are ready for another exciting term of learning in Lewis Class. We have lots of engaging topics planned and are looking forward to a busy and productive term ahead.
English
This term, we will be reading and creating a biography inspired by Nikola Tesla, focusing on organising information clearly and writing in a formal style. We will also explore poetry through The River by Valerie Bloom, analysing language and rhythm before creating our own poetry.
In SPaG, we will continue learning words with a range of prefixes and suffixes. We will also focus on relative and subordinate clauses, apostrophes for plural possession, and the use of colons and quoted speech.
Our whole-class reading text will be The Accidental Prime Minister by Tom McLaughlin. Through shared reading and discussion, we will develop our comprehension skills and vocabulary. We will continue our weekly library visits and celebrate World Book Day to foster our love of reading.
Maths
In maths, our learning will focus on fractions alongside decimals. Regular times tables practice will take place to help children build fluency and confidence, particularly in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check which will be taking place in June. Children will practice their times tables using TT Rockstars, during weekly sessions in the computer room every Tuesday morning.
Science
Our science topic this term is Electricity. We will identify sources and consumers of electricity and identify conductors and insulators. Children will learn about electrical safety and the dangers associated with electricity. Later in the unit, they will build their own electrical circuits and represent these using scientific diagrams.
Geography
In Geography, we will be learning about rivers, which also links to our English topic of the poem River by Valerie Bloom. We will identify different water sources and recap the water cycle. Children will explore the physical features of rivers, as well as human and physical features found around them. We will locate major rivers around the world using map skills and consider how rivers are used, including the problems associated with this. Finally, we will evaluate the environmental quality of a local river environment and consider how it could be improved.
Computing
In computing, we will explore photo editing. Children will learn how to manipulate and retouch images using editing tools. We will discuss why images are edited and consider both the positive and negative effects of retouching. Children will create their own edited images and reflect on how easily digital images can be altered.
RE
In RE, we will explore the question: “Is forgiveness always possible for Christians?” We will learn about the concept of Salvation and consider what Jesus’ life, death and resurrection teach Christians about forgiveness.
French
In French, our topic is Les Formes. Children will learn to recognise and name up to ten shapes, recap numbers from 1–10, and understand how nouns are linked to the articles un and une, applying these in both spoken and written work.
PSHE
Our PSHE topic is Rights and Respect. We will consider who helps to keep us safe, learn about the UNCRC Rights of the Child, and discuss democracy and how we can make a difference. We will also explore recognising the media’s influence.
Music
This term, children will learn to play the ukulele, developing their technique and focusing on the C and A chords.
P.E.
P.E lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Tuesdays, children will be visiting the Olympiad Leisure Centre for swimming lessons, while on Thursdays, children will be focusing on rounders.

Home Learning
This term, home learning will continue to be set every Friday. Home learning will include daily reading for approximately 15 minutes. Children are expected to record at least five reads each week in their reading records to show regular practice and progress. As part of our reading rewards initiative, children are working towards earning bookmarks for every 25 reads, along with other exciting reading milestones to celebrate their commitment and achievement. Children will also be expected to practice their weekly spellings, which will be tested on Fridays. Children will also be expected to complete regular times tables practice using TT Rockstars, and complete a sound Check, which helps to prepare them for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me after school or contact the school office.
