Curriculum

Through our core values of Be Kind, Be Safe, Fly high, we deliver a curriculum that is broad, balanced and ambitious so that all children, including those with SEND or who are socially disadvantaged, are able to achieve and thrive in later life. At Frogwell Primary School and Complex Needs Resource Base every individual child is known and valued.

We strongly believe that personal development and academic achievement go hand in hand. Our Social, Emotional and Mental Health curriculum is being developed through the curriculum and wider opportunities to ensure that children are supported to develop personally and have a positive attitude to academic learning in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.

Learning is built on solid foundations which are meaningful and engaging. We provide excellent learning experiences and inclusive enrichment opportunities that are underpinned by high-quality teaching. Children develop a thirst for learning which enables them to be securely ready for each stage of their education.

Subject leaders have developed a progression of knowledge and skills and identified key vocabulary and knowledge pertinent to their subject to be taught in each year group. Concept questions are used to assess Foundation Subjects from Year R through to Year 6 and, where appropriate, in the Complex Needs Resource base to assess children's understanding of the key knowledge. Our staff receive excellent continual professional development which ensures that they teach with confidence, expertise and experience.

We aim for our curriculum to:

  • be underpinned by our aims, values and purpose
  • be inclusive
  • develop the whole child through knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes
  • be broad, balanced and have a clear progression in subject knowledge and skills
  • be filled with rich first-hand purposeful experiences
  • be responsive and adapted to individual needs and interest
  • be open to the future and the needs of future citizens including developing a respect for the environment and other cultures and beliefs
  • make meaningful links between areas of knowledge across subjects, enabling our children to begin to understand issues locally, nationally and internationally and to recognise how they can contribute to an even better world
  • develop a sense of spirituality, moral integrity, cultural respect and social adaptability in order to thrive and succeed in a diverse and ever-changing world.
