Frogwell Primary intends to offer a relevant, broad, vibrant foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils. We are using the Language Angels scheme of work. High quality lessons, that encourage high pupil expectations and standards, are delivered through a wide variety of topics and themes allowing all pupils in key stage 2 to achieve their full potential. Our ultimate aims is for pupils to feel willing and able to continue studying beyond key stage 2.
Our intent is that all content will be continuously updated and reviewed annually, creating a dynamic programme of study that reflects the events of recent years and will be clearly outlined in both long-term and short term planning. This will ensure that foreign language knowledge progresses within each academic year and is extended throughout years 3 to 6 and in line with national DfE requirements.
The four key language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing will be taught and all necessary grammar will be covered in an age-appropriate way across years 3 to 6. We intend that pupils will use and apply their learning in a variety of contexts that will help pupils develop a solid foundation for future foreign language learning. Furthermore, we intend to develop a bank of resources that pupils can use to support their developing spoken and written skills.
We aim for pupils to develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages and by learning a second language will offer pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity, develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and cultural differences with their own. The intention is that pupils will be working towards becoming life-long language learners.
