Always Learning and Achieving Together

Welcome to France Class!

We are Year 1 and 2 children and our class teacher is called Mrs Snowden.  Our lovely teaching assistant is called Mrs Barnard. We all work hard and try our best.  We follow the school Golden Rules and make sure that we are kind to everyone.

We do PE on Mondays and Fridays but it is best if PE kits are kept in school for the whole term. That way we are able to do extra PE easily if we want to. Kits can be then be taken home for a wash at half term.

Remember, school PE kit is:

  • plain white T-shirt
  • plain black shorts
  • daps or trainers
  • plain black joggers for outdoor PE in the colder weather
  • no earrings (please remove studs or provide tape to cover)

Please bring your reading book and record book into school every day and take it home again each evening. Part of the ongoing home learning is to read daily. It is really important for parents / carers / older siblings to hear children read as often as possible and talk about the book - this is still important even if the child is a fantastic fluent reader! Don't forget to keep track of your home reading in the book provided, as this will earn you your stickers on the chart and Golden Book entries!  France Class visit the school library every Monday to change books.  Please make sure that your child's library book is returned on this day.

Keep an eye on this page for updates and information from the class.

This term our theme is 'Brilliant Brunel'.  Have you seen the railway and viaduct that he designed in Chippenham?  He was an amazing engineer and worked very hard.  We are looking forward to our trip to the SS Great Britain in Bristol on 28th September.

This term our theme is called 'Celebrations' and we will find out about Bonfire Night, Diwali, the Russian story of Babushka and finally Christmas.  Watch out for our production 'The Christmas Recipe' - it is going to be amazing!  Our learning value this term is 'thoughtfulness' and our whole school and class assemblies will be based on this value.

This term our theme is 'We are what we eat!'.  We will look at different food groups and what they do for our bodies.  We will design and make our own pizzas and also make some healthy porridge for breakfast!  The children will also write their own versions of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears and The Enormous Turnip and learn how to write clear and precise instructions.  This term we are also swimming - what better way to keep fit!  Our learning value this term is 'respect' and our whole school and class assemblies will be based on this value.

This term our theme is called 'The Terrific Toymaker' and we will be comparing old and new toys.  We will visit Chippenham Museum in week 3 to find out more and use some old toys!  We will compare these toys with toys we play with today. What is your favourite toy?  What did your mum or dad play with when they were young?  Our learning value this term is 'RESILIENCE' - we must keep trying and never give up!  Please look at assemblies (Term 4) for further information.

This term our theme is called 'Blood, Bones and Body Bits!'.  We will be learning more about how our body works and  what we can do to keep our bodies healthy. We will name different body parts and find out what they do / how they work.  Our learning value this term is 'Communication' - please refer to assemblies for further information.

This term our theme is 'Green Fingers' and we will be doing lots of planting! We will investigate the conditions needed for successful growing and identify the different parts of a plant.  Later in the term, we will also find out more about the different minibeasts that live in our school grounds and how we can look after their habitats. Our residential visit to Braeside  in week 5 will also support our theme.  Our learning value is adaptability and we will need this learning skill to help us prepare for Braeside and our next year at school - what an exciting term!
