Term 5
'Funny Bones'
This term our topic focus is all about 'our bodies' Our literacy focus begins with the wonderful book by Allan and Janet Ahlberg. We will be learning the story and other stories by the same authors. We will be innovating the story to re-write our own versions of it.
We will be learning all about the human body parts and how to look after our bodies this term, this includes staying healthy and how we can look after ourselves such as our teeth and eating a balanced diet.
We will be having a visit from a nurse this term who will tell us all about how to do this!
We have teamed up with Sri-Lanka class and every week will be reading to our 'reading buddy' we are very excited to show our buddies what super readers we are.
Please remember to keep your child's indoor and outdoor P.E kit in school for the whole term so they can comfortably and safely participate in their two P.E sessions during the week.
Please continue to support your child in their reading, home learning and extra activities such as Mathletics and Purple Mash at home, this really will support and consolidate their learning in school.
Keep an eye out every week for pictures of the children who are awarded 'STAR LEARNER' those who earn a 'Communication' certificate, sports person of the week, citizen of the week and who has shown fantastic behaviour all week to attend Mr Bacon's Golden ticket tea party!

This term in Australia class out topic theme is 'The Terrific Toymaker'
We will be bringing in our favourite toys from home to compare them to toys 'from the past'. This will be linked to Science where we explore the different materials our toys are made from and Forces, how do our toys work- do we need to push or pull them to make them move?
We are going to the museum in Chippenham in March to look at some old toys there and learn lots of interesting facts!
Please make sure your child has a coat in school every day as well as a water bottle. We will be beginning to have P.E outdoors some weeks (weather dependent) so please ensure your child has a full P.E kit in school, this includes outdoor wear and trainers so that they are able to fully participate in the sessions in comfort.
We are what we eat!
In term 3 our topic is all about healthy eating and making good food choices. In science we are learning about food groups, sorting foods and we will be making some healthy porridge. In Literacy we are learning all about Traditional Tales, in particular we are learning the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, we will be writing our own story and some instructions to make our own healthy porridge.
We are very excited this term about going swimming and for some children starting Forest schools!

Welcome back
We hope you all have had a lovely half term break. It was lovely to see that so many children have been continuing to read during the break and that now some children have already achieved their 50 reading nights certificate, well done!
You will find a curriculum map on the class page which tells you what your child will be learning in term 2.
Our topic this term is called 'Let's celebrate!' We are going to be learning all about different celebrations which take place over the year, in different countries and religions. We are going to celebrate Bonfire night, Diwali and Christmas over the coming weeks. Our Learning value this term is 'thoughtfulness', how can we show thoughtfulness to others?
Week 1
We are making teen numbers in our maths learning this week, writing numbers beyond 10 and number sentences.
In literacy we are writing Bonfire night poems this week, we have been thinking of some fantastic WOW words to describe things we see, hear, feel, smell and touch on Bonfire night to write some exciting poems. The children are excited about having our own little celebration where we will be eating hotdogs and popcorn! Pictures to follow
Week 6
We had a lovely week in Australia Class this week!
We were busy making our own SS Great Britain for the classroom this week! We are all very inspired by our visit to the SS Great Britain and have done some fantastic recount writing about the visit!
We have also been writing captions this week following our visit from Mr Skelton. Mr Skelton works at the museum in town, he bought in lots of Victorian Artefacts to share with the children as we are learning about the life and times of Isambard Kingdom Brunel!
He bought in some Victorian school clothes so we could dress up like a children from the Victorian ages
Week 4
We have had a great week in Australia class this week!
We have been thinking about who Isambard Kingdom Brunel was, what did he look like and what did he do?
We are all very excited to visit his famous ship the SS Great Britain on Monday (28.09)
In maths this week we have been learning about halving, we halved shapes and numbers, We had great fun with the play dough!
We did some fantastic writing this week! We did some writing to retell the story we have been learning and tried really hard to remember our capital letters and full stops!
Cody achieved star learner this week for his great resilience with his writing!
Reminder to parents
Please could you make sure your child does not take home their P.E kits during the term, we will send kits home at the end of every term to be washed. If they do not have a P.E kit in school they are unable to take part in the session.

Welcome to Australia Class!
It has been wonderful to see all of the children come back to school with such a positive attitude towards their learning. It is a pleasure to work with your children again this year.
Mrs Cozens is the teaching assistant in the class and she is very dedicated to helping the children in their learning.
In Australia Class we always encourage the children to try their best and to be resilient learners.
Our Topic for the first term is called 'Brunel The Brilliant', as such an important historical figure in the area we live in we will be learning about some of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's inventions. We plan to visit the museum in Chippenham and are very excited about our school trip to the SS Great Britain in Bristol in a few weeks!
What a fabulous full week back we had last week, Rowan was awarded' Star Learner' for fantastic work in Numeracy. Ava was chosen for' Citizen of the Week' for being such a fantastic role model within the class and Logan was 'Sportsperson' of the week for trying very hard in P.E and for listening carefully to instructions.
Lily was very excited to be given the Golden Ticket to attend the Mad Hatter's tea party with Mr Bacon on Friday where she had cake and hot chocolate with marshmallows! Well done Lily for your super behaviour and kindness you always show in class towards the other children and adults in Australia Class. Who will be chosen this week?
