Lewis (Year 4)
Welcome to Lewis Class
Teacher: Miss Bates
Teaching assistant: Mrs Manuel
Welcome to Term 2!
We have another exciting term of learning ahead in Lewis Class.
In writing, we will start the term with 'The Stroodle', using it to inspire persuasive pieces about finding alternatives to plastic straws. Later, we will explore 'Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp' and create our own non-fiction texts linked to the story. In maths, our focus will be on area before moving on to multiplication and division. We will also be practising our times tables regularly, to build fluency and confidence. Our science topic, Sound, will help us discover how sounds are made, how they travel, and how we hear them. To do this, we will use a range of instruments and even make our own instruments to explore how vibrations create sound. In geography, we will investigate the question “Why do people live near volcanoes?” to understand how natural environments influence where people choose to live. Finally, in DT, we’ll be designing and making our own healthy pizzas — a delicious way to put our learning into practice!
To continue to foster our love for reading, we will be enjoying 'A Bear Called Paddington' by Michael Bond during our daily whole-class reading sessions. We will be developing our comprehension skills through shared reading, discussion, and exploring new vocabulary together. As a class, we will also be enjoying 'Mr Stink' by David Walliams, alongside opportunities for reading for pleasure each week in our Thursday afternoon library sessions.
Please see the attached curriculum map for more details as well as subject-specific knowledge organisers.
P.E
P.E will be on a Tuesday and Thursday. On Tuesdays, Lewis Class will be developing skills in Tag rugby, and on Thursdays we will be taking part in Drumba, a fun fitness activity combining drumming and movement.
Please make sure you come to school in the correct P.E uniform as detailed below.
You will need to wear:
- Plain black / navy shorts, plain white t-shirt or white t-shirt with school logo
 - Daps for indoor PE
 - Trainers for outdoor PE
 - Plain black / navy joggers and a plain black / navy sweatshirt or ‘hoodie’ may be worn for cold weather outdoor PE in the winter.
 - A blue school fleece with logo is also available.
 - Please remember to pack socks for those who wear tights with their normal school clothes.

Please do not wear different colours or clothes with other logos.
Home Learning
Please note that no formal home learning will be set this term. However, we encourage regular reading at home, alongside consistent practice of spellings and times tables, as these play a vital role in supporting your child's progress. Little and often is the best approach to take; this may only be 5 minutes a day.
