Welcome to Jeffers Class.

Welcome back!

Term 3 promises to be packed full of exciting learning as well as lots of opportunities to develop teamwork, communication and resilience.

In English, we will continue to develop our independent writing, using both fiction and non-fiction texts as a stimulus. The focus being on producing a clear and sequenced piece of writing that demonstrates the use of capital letters and relevant punctuation, consistent use of the correct tense (past and present), the use of conjunctions to link ideas in complex sentences and, of course, literary devices, such as expanded noun phrases and similes, to add depth, create impact and make our writing descriptive and exciting for the reader!

In mathematics, we will secure number bonds to 10, 20, 50 and 100 through fluency practise and continue to develop our understanding of place value through addition and subtraction, within and across 10. Using concrete resources and written strategies, children will add and subtract 2-digit numbers, compare number sentences and complete missing number problems. Alongside this, children will continue to build their confidence in completing word problems involving reasoning and problem- solving.

Have a look at the curriculum map for Term 3 and knowledge organisers attached below for more detailed information about our learning and to help you discuss this learning together at home.

PE

This term, we will have PE on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday, we will be working on our ball skills, movement, coordination and teamwork through football and netball and on Friday we will be focussing on collaborative adventurous activities that support the development of navigation, problem-solving and thinking outside the box. Please ensure children come in correct PE uniform on these days:

  • Plain black / navy shorts, plain white t-shirt or white t-shirt with school logo
  • Trainers for outdoor PE
  • Plain black / navy joggers and a plain black / navy sweatshirt or ‘hoodie’ or a normal blue school jumper.

Please do not wear different colours or clothes with other logos.

Home Learning

Home learning will be set each Monday.

Year 1 children will have a number of tricky words to learn based on the relevant Little Wandle Phonics phase, and a NumBots activity.

Year 2 children will have 10 spelling words to learn throughout the week; practising these at home is very important. Alongside this, there will be a NumBots activity to complete.

All children in KS1 should be reading aloud to an adult for 10 minutes a day, with this being logged in the reading log books which will be sent home at the start of term. Please ensure that these books come back to school each day. Reading books will be changed on Fridays.

If you have any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to catch me at the door after school or by emailing the school office at admin@frogwell.wilts.sch.uk.
