Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely and relaxing Easter break.

In English, we will first complete our lyrical explanation, In My Heart, before moving on to several narratives; further developing our independence and stamina for writing. We will continue to work on our understanding and application of grammatical and literary devices within a clear and sequenced piece of writing, such as: expanded noun phrases, similes, alliteration, repetition, conjunctions, applying the correct suffixes and, of course, using a wide range of punctuation correctly. This term, we will continue to practise our handwriting and letter formation with a view to confidently joining our writing by the end of KS1.

In mathematics, we will continue to work on our multiplication and division skills before moving on to measurement, money and fractions. Our focus is on the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables and any practise that can be done at home is extremely helpful in supporting children to develop quick recall. NumBots activities are a motivational way for children to develop core maths skills and each child should have their own login to use at home (see Home Learning below).

Have a look at the curriculum map for Term 5 and knowledge organisers attached below for more detailed information about our learning and to help you discuss this learning together at home.

PE

This term, we will have PE on Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, we will be doing Drumba; a high-powered, fun and energetic drumming pattern to music. On Thursday, the children will have Forest School with Mrs Gosal and can wear PE kit for this - long trousers or leggings are advisable, as is a jumper and a waterproof coat. If wet, children can also bring in their wellies. Further to this, we will also have the opportunity to continue our team-building skills, led by Mr Millet, throughout Term 5.

Drumba

Please ensure children come in correct PE uniform on these days:

  • Plain black / navy shorts, plain white t-shirt or white t-shirt with school logo
  • Trainers for outdoor PE
  • Plain black / navy joggers and a plain black / navy sweatshirt or ‘hoodie’ or a normal blue school jumper.

Please do not wear different colours or clothes with other logos.

Home Learning

Home learning will be set each Friday from week 1.

Year 1 children will have a number of tricky words to learn based on the relevant Little Wandle Phonics phase, and a NumBots activity.

Year 2 children will have 10 spelling words to learn throughout the week; practising these at home is very important. Alongside this, there will be a NumBots activity to complete.

All children in KS1 should be reading aloud to an adult for 10 minutes a day, with this being logged in the reading log books which will be sent home at the start of term. Please ensure that these books come back to school each day. Reading books will be changed on Fridays.

If you have any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to catch me at the door after school or by emailing the school office at admin@frogwell.wilts.sch.uk.
