Welcome to EYFS and Year 1 Class

Mrs Snowden (Class Teacher) and Mrs Webb (Class Teaching Assistant) are happy to be your teachers and we are going to have such an exciting year at school.

Please come and speak to us if you have any questions or queries; we are always happy to help. 

Your child will bring home a reading folder with a reading record book, a library book (for you to read to your child) and a decodable book (for your child to read to / with you).  Please write a short comment in this book every time you read so we know how your child is getting on and engaging with reading at home.  Aim for 5 reads weekly. Your child will bring home their first decodable book (or for EYFS children a wordless book) home at the end of the first full week once we have practised this book at school in the week.  We will change books every Friday.  Please come to the Meet the Teacher meetings to get full details about this and how to support your child.

Term 1 

Our topic will be 'Marvellous Me' (EYFS focus) and 'How am I making history?' (Year 1 History focus). See the relevant year group curriculum overviews for detailed information. In science, children will be learning about the human body, our 5 senses and how to keep our bodies healthy.

This term Year 1 will continue to learn to read and spell Phase 3 and 4 words (e.g. frog, string, boat) and learn Phase 2, 3 and 4 tricky words. They will start to learn some Phase 5 sounds and tricky words. EYFS children will start to learn sounds in Phase 2 and some tricky words in Phase 2.  We follow the Little Wandle Phonics Programme.  There will be further information about our phonics programme and early reading learning in our Meet the Teacher meetings!

PE:  

This term (Term 1) PE will be on Tuesdays and Fridays. Children WILL need to wear PE kit to school on these days. 

NOTE: Children can bring in their own wellie boots (named) to keep in school - which we use for busy time outside.  However, we do have a good stock of Wellie boots if you can not provide a pair to remain in school.  Boots from home MUST be named.

PE kit:

• Plain black / navy joggers and a plain black / navy sweatshirt or ‘hoodie’ or a normal blue school jumper.
• Plain black / navy shorts (not for Forest School), plain white t-shirt or white t-shirt with school logo.
• Daps or Trainers.

  Please do not wear different colours or clothes with other logos.
