Welcome to Term 5!
We hope you all had a lovely break and are ready for another exciting term. We have lots of engaging learning planned and are looking forward to a busy and productive term. We are also really excited for our upcoming residential to Grittleton House, which will help the children build independence and work effectively as part of a team.
English
In English, we will be focusing on diary writing, using The Secrets of a Sun King as inspiration. Children will develop their skills in writing in role, using descriptive language and organising their ideas clearly. In SPaG, we will continue learning words with a range of prefixes and suffixes, including adverbs of manner and words ending in ‘-cian’. We will also focus on relative and subordinate clauses and apostrophes for plural possession. Our whole class reading text is The Boy Who Grew Dragons by Andy Shepherd. We will continue to develop comprehension skills and vocabulary through shared reading, alongside our weekly library sessions.
Maths
In Maths, we will continue our learning on decimals before moving on to money. Children will learn to convert between pounds and pence, compare and order amounts and solve problems. Later in the term, we will move on to time, where children will read analogue and digital clocks and convert between 12- and 24-hour time. Regular times tables practice will take place to help children build fluency and confidence, particularly in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check which will be taking place in June. Children will practice their times tables using TT Rockstars, during weekly sessions in the computer room every Tuesday and Friday morning.
Computing
In computing, our topic is Online Bullying and Reputation. Children will learn to recognise online bullying and understand how it differs from bullying in the physical world. They will explore how online actions can impact others and their own digital reputation, and learn how to seek support from trusted adults.
RE and World Views
In RE, we will be learning about pilgrimage. Children will explore what pilgrimage means and why people of different faiths choose to go on these journeys. They will consider whether pilgrimage is necessary to feel close to God and explore how these experiences can impact believers and their communities.
French
In French, our topic is Les Glaces (Ice Creams). Children will learn to name a range of ice cream flavours and practise using key vocabulary to order in French. They will revisit numbers and develop speaking and listening skills, while applying their understanding of the articles ‘un’ and ‘une’.
PSHE
In PSHE, our topic is Doing My Best. Children will explore individuality, making positive choices and understanding how to keep their bodies healthy.
Music
In music, children will explore how music shapes our way of life and listen to a range of genres, including gospel, modern gospel, classical and plainchant.
Forest School
Forest School will take place on Fridays. Children should come to school in school uniform and bring appropriate outdoor clothing suitable for all weather conditions. This is a fantastic opportunity for children to develop teamwork, resilience and confidence through outdoor learning experiences.
P.E.
P.E lessons will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Mondays, children will be developing football skills with our sports coach, whilst on Tuesdays, children will be visiting the Olympiad Leisure Centre for swimming lessons.
Please make sure children come to school in the correct P.E uniform as detailed below.
You will need to wear:
- Plain black / navy shorts, plain white t-shirt or white t-shirt with school logo
- Daps for indoor PE
- Trainers for outdoor PE
- Plain black / navy joggers and a plain black / navy sweatshirt or ‘hoodie’ may be worn for cold weather outdoor PE in the winter.
- A blue school fleece with logo is also available.
- Please remember to pack socks for those who wear tights with their normal school clothes.
Please do not wear different colours or clothes with other logos.
- Monday – Football (children should wear PE kit to school)
-
Tuesday – Swimming (children must bring appropriate swimming kit)
Home Learning
This term, home learning will continue to be set every Friday. Home learning will include daily reading for approximately 15 minutes. Children are expected to record at least five reads each week in their reading records to show regular practice and progress. As part of our reading rewards initiative, children are working towards earning bookmarks for every 25 reads, along with other exciting reading milestones to celebrate their commitment and achievement. Children will also be expected to practice their weekly spellings, which will be tested on Fridays. Children will also be expected to complete regular times tables practice using TT Rockstars, and complete a sound Check, which helps to prepare them for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me after school or contact the school office.
