Jeffers (Year 1 / 2)
Teacher: Mr Daniels (Monday, Tuesday and Friday) and Mrs Gordon (Wednesday and Thursday)
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Bain (morning) and Miss Deeprose (all day)
Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely break. As you know, I will be moving over to lead Resource Base in Miss Kennedy's absence this term and through the next academic year. However, I leave you in the capable hands of Mr Daniels and Mrs Gordon. I will miss all the children greatly, but it is set to be an exciting, jam-packed final term.
In English, we will first complete a narrative based on George and the Dragon, further developing our independence and stamina for writing. Then, Jeffers class will work on a setting description using Little Monkey as a stimulus. We will continue to work on our understanding and application of grammatical and literary devices within a clear and sequenced piece of writing, such as: expanded noun phrases, similes, alliteration, repetition, conjunctions, applying the correct suffixes and, of course, using a wide range of punctuation correctly. This term, we will continue to practise our handwriting and letter formation with a view to confidently joining our writing by the end of KS1.
In mathematics, we will begin by looking at money; recognising coins and notes and calculating pounds and pence, as well as finding change from different amounts. Next, we will be looking at fractions more closely; recognising halves, quarters and thirds. The children will then learn about unit and non-unit fractions and find equivalents before moving on to telling the time on an analogue clock.
Have a look at the curriculum map for Term 6 attached below for more detailed information about our learning in other subjects and to help you discuss this learning together at home. You will also find the Year 2 spelling words for each week below.
PE
This term, we will have PE on Monday and Wednesday. On Monday, the children will have tag rugby led by Dante Anderson from In2Sport and on Wednesday, Mr Millet will be putting the class through some rigorous athletics training in preparation for Sports Day. Please ensure PE kit is worn only on these days. Note – there will be no Forest School sessions for Jeffers Class this term.
Please ensure children come in correct PE uniform on these days:
- Plain black / navy shorts, plain white t-shirt or white t-shirt with school logo
- Trainers for outdoor PE
- Plain black / navy joggers and a plain black / navy sweatshirt or ‘hoodie’ or a normal blue school jumper.
Please do not wear different colours or clothes with other logos.
Home Learning
Home learning will be set each Friday from week 1.
Year 1 children will have a number of tricky words to learn based on the relevant Little Wandle Phonics phase, and a NumBots activity.
Year 2 children will have 10 spelling words to learn throughout the week; practising these at home is very important. Alongside this, there will be a NumBots activity to complete.
All children in KS1 should be reading aloud to an adult for 10 minutes a day, with this being logged in the reading log books which will be sent home at the start of term. Please ensure that these books come back to school each day. Reading books will be changed on Fridays.
If you have any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to catch me at the door after school or by emailing the school office at admin@frogwell.wilts.sch.uk.
